CIAA Releases 2011 Tournament Bracket: Monday Tip-Off for Women's Games

Hampton, VA…The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has released its 2011 men’s and women’s tournament bracket; returning to its six-day format- with the addition of Lincoln University (PA) and Winston-Salem State University.
 
TV One will continue its partnership with the CIAA, airing the men’s quarterfinals and semi-finals live, while ESPN will joining the team for Saturday’s men’s championship game; live on ESPNU and ESPN3 (Web).

SIAC Announces 2011 Basketball Tournament Seedings

Atlanta, GA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to announce the men’s and women’s seedings for the 78th SIAC Basketball Tournament. Leading this year’s men’s field is the number one seed Benedict Tigers while the Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats will be the number one seed in the women’s field.

Under the guidance of head coach Fred Watson, the Benedict Tigers finished with a 20-4 conference record, 20-6 overall, to capture their first SIAC regular season title since 2008. The Tigers are led by sophomore center Marcus Goode. The Tigers, who are currently ranked number three in the NCAA men’s south region and number seven in the Bowtorow.com HBCU Division II/NAIA poll, will have a bye in the first round of the conference tournament.

Also receiving a first round bye in the men’s bracket are the number two seed Stillman Tigers and the number three seed Tuskegee Golden Tigers.

The Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats, coached by Lonnie Bartley, finished with a 17-5 conference record, 19-9 overall, to win the women’s regular season conference title. The Lady Wildcats are led by a pair of juniors, center Jasmine Birdsong and forward Kendra Evans. The Lady Wildcats, who are currently ranked 10th in the NCAA women’s south region, will have a bye in the first round of the conference tournament.

Other teams receiving a first round bye in the women’s bracket are the number two seed Albany State Lady Rams, the number three seed Miles Lady Bears, and the number four seed Benedict Lady Tigers.

The 2011 SIAC Basketball Tournament will take place March 2nd-5th in Atlanta, GA. The first two rounds (March 2nd-3rd) will be at Clark Atlanta University’s L.S. Epps Gymnasium and Morehouse College’s Frank L. Forbes Arena. Semifinal (March 4th) and championship games (March 5th) will also be at Frank L. Forbes Arena.
