2006 SMALL FARMERS AND WOMEN IN BUSINESS CONFERENCE

Alcorn State University’s Extension Program and the Small Farmers Outreach Training and Technical Assistance Program will host its Annual Small Farmers and Women in Business Conference, March 27-29, 2006. All extension workers, farm specialists, educational professionals, non-profit development specialists, as well as federal and state agriculture development staff and those with agricultural and business interests are invited to attend. There are numerous opportunities available to Mississippi farmers and women in business. This year’s conference will explore small farm development, value added marketing, risk management and opportunities for women in business.

This conference will take place at the Vicksburg Convention Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The conference begins on Monday, March 27, with registration at 8:00 a.m. Registration will be followed by a full day of workshops on Monday, Wednesday and tours on Tuesday. The registration fee for agency professionals/organizations is $150 before February 28, 2006 after $200, non-professionals/representatives $125 and farmers/women in business $30.

The conference purposes are to provide focused technical assistance to small farmers; explore concrete opportunities for value-added vegetable marketing; risk management; opportunities for women in business; network with federal and state resource contacts; and share experiences and ideas. The conference will also feature a variety of exhibits focusing on various topics.
