VA… The Central Intercollegiate
Athletic Association is pleased to
welcome Argle B. “A.B.” Whitfield
to the list of 2007 inductees to the
John B. McLendon, Jr. Hall of Fame. The
induction ceremony and luncheon will be
held on March 2, 2007 at
The Westin Hotel, Charlotte, 11:00am.
A.B. Whitfield, an alumnus from
Elizabeth City State University, was a
four-year starter on the Vikings
football team, was captain of the
wrestling team, and a member of the
track and field team. In his junior
year, Whitfield received All-CIAA honors
in all three sports.
Upon graduating, this ECSU Sports Hall
of Fame member, played professional
football with the Dallas Cowboys in 1967
and the Denver Broncos in 1969.
A.B. is founder of A.B. Whitfield Photo
Productions, specializing in corporate
photography and sports productions. He
has worked with clients including Hertz,
United Negro College Fund,
Colgate-Palmolive and the NCAA.
Whitfield is the author of
A Pictorial History of CIAA
Professionals from 1950-1984, which
features some of the greatest
African-American athletes and coaches.
Whitfield is also co-founder of the Trey
Whitfield Foundation, which provides
financial support for talented, young
men and women who aspire to attend
college. To date, the foundation has
raised more than $1 million in
scholarships for students of all
nationalities.
