As a result of his hard work
on the court this past weekend, senior
forward Anthony Williams was named the
SWAC’s Player of the Week. The honor
marks the first time this season a
member of the Tiger basketball team has
received the weekly honor.
A 6-7, 207-pound forward
from East San Jose, Calif., Williams
scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds
with one steal and a block during
Grambling State’s 77-74 comeback win
against Jackson State this past
Saturday. On the season, Williams is
averaging 14.2 points per game, 7.4
rebounds and 1.5 assists. He also leads
the team in scoring and rebounding and
ranks third among SWAC leaders in
scoring and rebounding.
The Tigers (7-7, 5-2 SWAC),
which are locked in a four-way tie for
first place, return to the court this
weekend to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in
SWAC action at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial
Gymnasium. On Monday, Jan. 29,
Grambling State will host Mississippi
Valley State for a nationally televised
contest on ESPNU. To accommodate the
television coverage, the game time has
been pushed back to 8:05 p.m.
