November 21, 2007
(TAKOMA
PARK, MD – ) There was never
any question who would win but how
much they would win by, as the
Bulldogs of Bowie State (3-0) defeat
the Columbia Union Pioneers 106-93.
Bowie State Head Coach Luke
D’Alessio has never lost to Columbia
Union (14-0) and the Bulldogs have
won 16 consecutive games over
Columbia Union dating back to the
1997-1998 season.
The
Bulldogs of Bowie State held a 58-34
lead at the half, scoring at a 65.7%
clip and held Columbia Union’s
Pioneers to 37.5% shooting from the
field. Of the 58 first half points,
34 were in the paint and the
Bulldogs converted 10 Pioneers
turnovers into 15 points. Had it
not been for 3-pointers, Columbia
Union might have trailed by much
more. The Pioneers knocked down
6-of-16 from behind the arc, which
was half of their first half total
field goals. Bowie State dominated
the glass in the first 20 minutes,
outrebounding Columbia Union 26 to
12.
Columbia
Union’s second half sort of mirrored
the first in terms of 3-point
shooting. Dana Clark had the hot
hand for the Pioneers, scoring 16 of
his game-high 26 points. Field goal
shooting greatly improved in the
second half for Columbia Union with
the Pioneers hitting 57.5%
(23-of-40) of its field goals.
Besides
Clark, Mark Moore poured in 24
points and Tim Turner added another
18 points. Moore and Clark were
responsible for 10 of Columbia
Union’s 16 3-point baskets. Michael
Belmes and Will Coston played well
for the Pioneers, chipping in 12 and
11 points respectively.
Joshua
Johnson came off the Bowie State
bench to lead the Bulldogs in
scoring and rebounds, tallying 16
and 11 respectively in just 18
minutes. Anthony Ivory came up big
as a starter, scoring 15 points on
7-of-9 shooting. Other BSU double
figure scorers include Jason Ingram
(13), David Paris and Orlando Wright
with 12 apiece and Arthur Bowers
(10).
Bowie State will begin conference
play – Tuesday (11/27) on the road
at Livingstone College. Columbia
Union (0-3) travels to Virginia
Military Institute (11/28) for a 7
p.m. contest against the Keydets.
