(CHARLOTTE, NC – October 11, 2007) The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced its Pre-Season All-CIAA Teams and Predicted Order of Finish at the CIAA Basketball Press Conference and Luncheon, this afternoon.  The Lady Bulldogs were picked to finish first in the CIAA Eastern Division and the Bulldogs were picked to place second in the division as selected by the conference coaches and Sports Information Director’s.

Bowie State’s Lady Bulldogs are represented on the Pre-Season All-CIAA by senior Allyson Swailes (Silver Spring, MD) and junior Markeya Watson (Clinton, MD).  Swailes, a two-time All-CIAA selection (2005-2006 and 2006-2007) led the team in scoring (14.8 ppg), rebounds (9.1), field goal percentage (.471) and free throws made (117).  Swailes was also named to the 2007 CIAA All-Tournament Team for the second consecutive year.  Watson, the teams Most Valuable Player last season, ranked second in scoring average (11.0) and rebound average (8.1) and joined Swailes on the CIAA All-Tournament Team.

Seniors Jason Ingram (Alexandria, VA) and Orlando Wright (Bowie, MD) represent Bowie State’s selections to the team.  Wright started all 29 games last season averaging 10.8 ppg and 3.9 rebounds.  Ingram played in all 29 games (starting 28) and ranked fourth in team scoring (9.4) and third in rebounds (5.4).

Today’s event tipped-off the 2007-08 season with in-depth predictions and outlooks presented by CIAA men’s and women’s basketball head coaches.  Participants were also treated to an announcement by 2XSalt, Inc., an organization that will be hosting the “Battle of the Best”; a scrimmage game between renowned Oak Hill Academy and Montrose Christian Academy. This game will be included in the host of Super Saturday events.

BSU’s Lady Bulldogs will begin the season on the road (November 16) at the James A. Richardson Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Lincoln (PA) University.  Bowie State will open its home portion of the schedule Tuesday, November 20th against Salem International University.  Bowie State’s men will open the 2007-2008 season Friday, November 16, hosting the Bulldogs Classic.  BSU will tangle with Cheyney at 7:30 p.m. while Holy Family and East Stroudsburg will tip the Classic off at 5:30 p.m.  BSU will also make a return to the “Mecca” Madison Square Garden – December 1st to face Virginia Union University.
