to Pre-Season All-CIAA Team

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association announced its Pre-Season
All-CIAA Teams and Predicted Order of
Finish at the CIAA Basketball Press
Conference and Luncheon, this
afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs were
picked to finish first in the CIAA
Eastern Division and the Bulldogs were
picked to place second in the division
as selected by the conference coaches
and Sports Information Director’s.
Bowie
State’s Lady Bulldogs are represented on
the Pre-Season All-CIAA by senior
Allyson
Swailes (Silver Spring, MD)
and junior
Markeya
Watson (Clinton, MD).
Swailes, a two-time All-CIAA selection
(2005-2006 and 2006-2007) led the team
in scoring (14.8 ppg), rebounds (9.1),
field goal percentage (.471) and free
throws made (117). Swailes was also
named to the 2007 CIAA All-Tournament
Team for the second consecutive year.
Watson, the teams Most Valuable Player
last season, ranked second in scoring
average (11.0) and rebound average (8.1)
and joined Swailes on the CIAA
All-Tournament Team.
Seniors
Jason
Ingram (Alexandria, VA) and
Orlando Wright (Bowie, MD)
represent Bowie State’s selections to
the team. Wright started all 29 games
last season averaging 10.8 ppg and 3.9
rebounds. Ingram played in all 29 games
(starting 28) and ranked fourth in team
scoring (9.4) and third in rebounds
(5.4).
Today’s
event tipped-off the 2007-08 season with
in-depth predictions and outlooks
presented by CIAA men’s and women’s
basketball head coaches. Participants
were also treated to an announcement by
2XSalt, Inc., an organization that will
be hosting the “Battle of the Best”; a
scrimmage game between renowned Oak Hill
Academy and Montrose Christian Academy.
This game will be included in the host
of Super Saturday events.
BSU’s Lady
Bulldogs will begin the season on the
road (November 16) at the James A.
Richardson Tip-Off Tournament hosted by
Lincoln (PA) University. Bowie State
will open its home portion of the
schedule Tuesday, November 20th
against Salem International University.
Bowie State’s men will open the
2007-2008 season Friday, November 16,
hosting the Bulldogs Classic. BSU will
tangle with Cheyney at 7:30 p.m. while
Holy Family and East Stroudsburg will
tip the Classic off at 5:30 p.m. BSU
will also make a return to the “Mecca”
Madison Square Garden – December 1st
to face Virginia Union University.
