HILLIARD NAMED TO 2007-08 BASETBALL PRE-SEASON TEAM
Vikings Picked to Finish Third in CIAA Eastern Division

CHARLOTTE, NC- Elizabeth City State University junior guard Anthony Hilliard has been named to the 2007-2008 CIAA Men’s Pre-Season All-CIAA team as announced at the Annual CIAA Basketball Roundup at the Charlotte Convention Center Thursday morning.

The Pre-season Team along with the 2007-08 predicted order of finish is voted on annually by the CIAA Men’s Basketball Coaches Association and revealed at the Annual CIAA Basketball Roundup. After capturing the 2007 CIAA Men’s Basketball championship, the Vikings were picked to finish third in the CIAA Eastern Division behind Virginia Union University and Bowie State University. Virginia State and Saint Paul’s College round out the five teams in the division. In the Western Division, Johnson C. Smith University was picked to capture first place followed by Fayetteville State, Saint Augustine’s College, Livingstone College and Shaw University.

Hilliard, a 6-3 guard from Fayetteville, NC, received the automatic honor as a pre-season selection after being named to the 2007 All-CIAA team. Last season he was named the 2007 CIAA Tournament MVP after leading the Vikings to their first tournament title in 26 seasons. He led the CIAA in rebounding and was the only men’s player to average a double-double of 19.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

The Vikings will begin the 2007-08 campaign on November 19th when the open up at home versus Lincoln University. Game time is slated for 7:30pm at the RL Vaughan Center.
