JCSU Women Extend Winning Streak to
4 Games with 58-40 Win Over Claflin
Pantherettes Suffer First Loss of
Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Janai
Jackson (Bowie, Md.) was one of
three Lady Golden Bulls in double
figures as Johnson C. Smith
University downed the visiting
Claflin University Pantherettes
58-40 in women’s basketball action.
She also had six rebounds, one
assist and a steal in the victory.
Though Claflin started the contest
on a 7-2 run, the fierce Lady Golden
Bulls battled back to a 32-23 lead
going into the half. JCSU would
never relinquish the lead in the 18
point victory. JCSU’s 58 points were
the most points scored all season
long, while holding Claflin to a
season low 40 points.
Smith controlled the boards
out-rebounding Claflin 48 to 23 and
shot 40% from the field compared to
23% for the visitors. Latoya Savage
led the Pantherettes with 10 points.
Savage was the only Claflin player
with double digit scoring.
Freshman Miryame Diouf
(Powder Springs, Ga.) recorded her
first double digit outing qith 10
points. She fell just three rebounds
shy of a double-double. Red hot
Kyria Buford (Charlotte, N.C.),
the team’s leading scorer was held
to just 10 points.
The win extends JCSU’s winning
streak to four games while the loss
negates Claflin’s undefeated record.
JCSU will travel to Rock Hill, S.C.
to take on Division I opponent
Winthrop on Sunday, December 9,
2007. This will be the first ever
meeting between the two schools.
Game time is slated for 2 p.m. in
Rock Hill.
