Blue Bears Continues to Improve with 73-64 Win over Belmont Abbey

Salisbury, NC – Livingstone College, now 2-0 overall, defeated visiting Belmont Abbey College 73-64 in an afternoon match-up. Four players scored in double-figures while the Blue Bears shot 49.1% from the floor and 84.6% from the free throw line. Mario Satterthwaite (Greenville, NC) led all with 19 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Calvin Gunning (Camden, NJ) followed with 18 points of his own. The Crusaders (0-2 overall) led at the half 33-31.

Down at the half, the Blue Bears (2-0) took complete control of the lead in the second half with 12:09 remaining; when leading scorer Satterthwaite scored a lay-up for the 44-42 score. Michael Duncan (Cleveland, OH) hit 13 points while Tayloe Taylor netted ten points and dished eight assists.

The Blue Bears struggled in the first half making 12 of 29 field goals (41.4%) but improved with 57.7% shooting in the second half. Belmont Abbey shot 38.2% in the beginning but faced difficulty through the course of the game finishing with a total of 42.1%. The Blue Bears defense forced 20 turnovers and crashed the boards. Compared to 12 second-chance points in the first half, the Crusaders were limited to two in the second.

Livingstone will travel to Mars Hill for a 7:00 pm match-up on Tuesday, November 20th.
