Livingstone holds off Bluefield State 43-42

The Lady Blue Bears won its home opener versus the Lady Blues of Bluefield State 43-42. While both teams shot poorly from the floor, Livingstone (1-2 overall) utilized its defense for the victory.  Chelsea Johnson forced a Lady Blues turnover and foul with seven seconds remaining in the game. After a pair of missed free throws, Bluefield State missed a last second attempt at a three-pointer. Asheka Hudson (Junior, Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI HS) and Turquoise Lane (Senior, Winston-Salem, NC/Carver HS) led all with ten points. Lane led the defensive effort with seven steals. Livingstone led by one at the half, 21-20.

Bluefield State (0-2 overall) shot 32.5% in field goals and made 5 of 16 attempts in the first half. Livingstone shot 35.4% for the game and made 8 of 22 shots in the second half. The Lady Blue Bears last field goal was with 2:50 remaining in the game. LC’s largest lead was by seven points in the first half with 15:44 remaining. Both teams scored 22 points in the second half.
