ELIZABETH
CITY, NC- All-American center
Celeste Trahan tallied 21 points and 19
rebounds to lead Elizabeth City State
past Livingstone College 64-60 Thursday
night at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
The
double-double represents the 65th
of her career and her rebounding total
moves her into fourth all-time (1,209)
in the CIAA, passing Hampton’s Jackie
Dolberry. She needs just two points to
move in 14th place on the
CIAA’s all-time scoring list.
As for Thursday
night’s game the Lady Vikings dominated
the boards 51-29 en route to the four
point victory. Their 19-to-7 offensive
rebounding edge led to a 17-3 advantage
in second chance points. That turned out
to be one of the differences in the
tightly contested game that saw 7 ties
and 10 lead changes. Late in the second
half a 3-pointer by the Lady Blue Bear’
Chelsea Johnson trimmed ECSU’s lead to
51-50. The Lady Vikings then went on a
7-0 run capped by a Joyce Freeman
3-pointer 1:53 that appeared to seal the
game. However, the Lady Blue Bears
fought back to again cut the lead to two
with 39 seconds remaining. ECSU finally
closed out the game hitting 5 of 6
attempts from the charity stripe.
Asheka Hudson
topped the Lady Blue Bears (1-5, CIAA
0-2) with 18 points. For ECSU, Freeman
finished with a season high 12 points
while freshman Shaquella Johnson netted
double figures for the second straight
game with 10 points.
The Lady Vikings
(2-1, CIAA 1-1) will close out the
week’s competition when they travel to
Raleigh, NC to take on Saint Augustine’s
College Saturday, December 1st.
Game time is slated for 5:30pm.
