(VIRGINIA BEACH, Fla. – Dec. 17, 2007)  Bethune-Cookman University point guard Joey Woods has been named as this week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s basketball Rookie of the Week as released by the conference office in Virginia Beach, Va.

Woods stands 6-foot-2, 180 pounds and hails from Naples, Fla. on the western half of the state of Florida, contributed heavily last week in the Wildcats only game against Southeastern University.

In that game, Woods shot 50 percent from the field on 3-of-6 shooting, as he poured in eight points and grabbed down two rebounds in a 65-51 win for the Wildcats.  Woods also handed out a season-high eight assists while swiping away two steals.  The victory for B-CU continues their current four-game winning streak.  That streak is now the longest since the 2005-06 campaign in which the Wildcats finished the year 15-15 overall, and tied for second place in the league.

This is Joey Woods’ first MEAC Rookie of the Week award this season.

MEAC Player of the Week honors went to Rashad West of Hampton University, while the Defensive Player of the Week award was given to Florida A&M’s Joe Ballard.

Bethune-Cookman takes on Iowa State tonight at 8 p.m. in Ames, Iowa.  The game is a part of the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Classic.  For more information, please log onto www.orleansarena.com.
