ELIZABETH CITY,
NC- Elizabeth City State University
sophomore guard Joyce Freeman scored a
career high 18 points to lead the Lady
Vikings past The Apprentice School 74-58
Wednesday night at the R.L. Vaughan
Center.
Freeman also
dished out five assists, grabbed six
rebounds, blocked two shots and had two
steals in the win. Freshman Whitney
Stokes had her best outing of the season
with 14 points and five rebounds while
Celeste Trahan rounded out the Lady
Vikings’ double figure scorers with 13
points and a game high 16 rebounds, the
71st double-double of her
career.
The Lady Vikings
appeared to have put the Lady Builders
(4-6) away early with a 32-13 advantage
after a lay-up by Whitney Stokes with
5:54 remaining in the first half. The
visitors would rally with a 15-2 run to
make their deficit on 34-28 at the
break. One minute into the second half,
the Lady Builders knotted the score at
34 after back-to-back three-pointers by
Natasha Jones. At the 18:32 mark
Sha-Teisa Sharpe gave ECSU the lead for
good with her own three-ball and besides
a free throw by Tyechia Cooke
momentarily trimming the lead to two
points, that would be the closest the
Lady Builders would get the remainder of
the game. Freeman scored 13 of her game
high 18 points in the second half.
The Lady Vikings
never trailed in the game and won the
battle of the boards 58-43.
ECSU (5-4) will
return to action January 2, 2008 when
they travel to take on Mount Olive
College. Game time is scheduled for
2:00pm.
