The Elizabeth City State Lady
Vikings defeated the North Carolina
Central University Lady Eagles 51-50
in the first game of the 11th
Annual Lady Eagle Classic at
McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium.
The Lady Vikings (4-2) outscored the
Lady Eagles 33-24 in the second half
behind the play of senior Celeste
Trahan who netted 15 of her game
high 22 points after the
intermission. Trahan also pulled
down 13 rebounds, collecting the 68th
double-double of her career.
En route to the one-point win, ECSU
had to erase a 15-point first half
deficit and a 26-18 Lady Eagle
halftime lead. Joyce Freeman and
Cheniece Arthur rounded out the
double figure scorers for the Lady
Vikings, contributing 10 points
each.
Jennifer Hukill led North Carolina
Central (0-11) with 16 points
followed by Jori Nwachukwu with 13
points and 9 boards.
The Lady Vikings will face Barton
College tomorrow at 2:00pm. Barton
dropped an 85-81 decision to
Fayetteville State in day one’s
nightcap. The Lady Broncos and Lady
Eagles will tip-off at 4:00pm on
Saturday.
