ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City
State University Vikings used big
scoring outbursts in an inning of both
games against North Carolina Central
University to capture a doubleheader
sweep (10-7 and 18-6) Friday afternoon
at Holmes Field.
With the
wins the Vikings win the regular season
series with NCCU (15-21, CIAA 10-4) with
a 3-1 advantage.
In game
one the Eagles held a 7-3 edge when the
Vikings exploded for with a 7-run sixth
inning to take a 10-7 victory. In that
fateful inning, ECSU gained their first
lead of the day collecting six hits
while the Eagles committed three costly
errors. Meshaw Taylor led the way for
the Vikings in game one, hitting his
first home run of the year and
collecting 4 RBI.
In game
two’s victory the Vikings dismantled the
Eagles hopes of earning a split with a
14-run onslaught in the 4 inning. It
began when with two runners on and one
out the Eagles intentionally walked
Meshaw Taylor to load the bases. Dusty
Todd then made NCCU pay with a 2 RBI
double and the Vikings would continue to
roll from there. J.J. House the followed
Todd’s heroics with a bases clearing
triple. By the time that inning wrapped
the Eagles had used three pitchers and
the Viking batted around twice. J.J.
House paced the Vikings’ game two win
with 3 doubles, 1 triple and 8 RBI.
ECSU
(16-9, CIAA 10-4) will return to action
on Sunday, April 8th as the
will play host to Virginia State
University. The CIAA doubleheader is
slated for a 1:00pm start.
