CHARLOTTE, N.C. – – Forty-five of Johnson C. Smith University student-athletes received their undergraduate degrees at the 140th commencement exercises at Cricket Arena on Sunday, May 6, 2007. Twenty-two of those graduated with a 3.0 or better. That number of graduates represents 21 percent of the entire 2007 graduating class of 214.

Johnson C. Smith University prides itself in its graduation rates which are among the highest in NCAA Division II. The Honorable Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson (Associate Justice, North Carolina Supreme Court) addressed the graduates and spoke candidly about obeying the rules and following the law. In her years of experience, she said that many people before her were good people but took shortcuts thus breaking the rules. In a brief but powerful message, Justice Timmons-Goodson urged the graduates to “endure and never give up”.
