Travels to Tallahassee for First Round of NCAA Baseball Tournament
Wildcats
to face Florida State in opening round of Tallahassee Regional
Brian Harvey
(DAYTONA
BEACH, Fla. – May 28, 2007)
Ready to represent the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as the
2007 league champion in the upcoming NCAA Baseball Tournament,
Bethune-Cookman University found out their fate on Monday afternoon when
it was announced the Wildcats will be headed to Tallahassee, Fla.
Also joining the Wildcats in Tallahassee, one of 16 on-campus sites for
the opening round, will be host Florida State, Mississippi State and
fellow Volusia County member Stetson.
The
Wildcats will be taking on the Florida State Seminoles at 7 p.m. on
Friday night at Dick Howser Stadium on the campus of FSU. The
Seminoles come into the tournament ranked third nationally, as well as
earning one of eight top overall seeds (sixth). The Seminoles were
defeated by ACC runner-up Wake Forest over the weekend in Jacksonville
during the ACC Tournament, while Mississippi State and Stetson both
earned at-large bids as well. Only B-CU is serving as an automatic
bid via the MEAC Tournament crown.
The
first game of Friday’s twin-bill will feature Mississippi State and
Stetson at 1 p.m.
This
marks the third time in B-CU baseball history that the Wildcats will be
taking the trip over to the state capital of Tallahassee. The
‘Cats faced Florida State back in 2004, 2001 and 2000 for the opening
round of the Tallahassee Regional each of the aforementioned seasons.
They lost all three contests.
