Baseball Coach and Team Honored by B-CU President
Read aloud by Director of Athletics, Lynn W. Thompson, the certificate showed President Reed’s acknowledgement of the B-CU Baseball squad finishing the regular season number one in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), as well as going on to win their conference-best 11th MEAC Tournament title. “Anytime you are recognized by the President of your institution, it is an honor in itself,” stated Coach Melendez. “We are glad that we made her [Dr. Reed] proud, and that has always been one of our goals as a team—to make the University and Dr. Reed very proud of what we do.” B-CU’s President is prepared to hold a special party for the baseball team on Saturday night, hopefully in Tallahassee while they continue their stride towards the school’s first-ever NCAA Regional title in baseball. The B-CU Softball squad collected the first Regional title in 2005 under then head coach Laura Watten [now head coach at the University of Maryland] at the Gainesville (Fla.) Regional. “Anytime our administration recognizes the fantastic accomplishments of our staff and teams, we are grateful because I know how hard they work and how deserving they are of such awards,” added Lynn Thompson. Bethune-Cookman will now face Florida State University on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. The Wildcats enter the NCAA Regional as the #4 seed in the Tallahassee Regional, alongside Florida State (#1), Stetson (#2) and Mississippi State (#3). --BCU
