MEAC Announces Sonja Stills as
Assistant Commissioner for
Administration & Compliance

Virginia Beach, Va. -
The Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference (MEAC) has announced
that Sonja O. Stills has been
promoted to the position of
Assistant Commissioner for
Administration & Compliance.

Ms. Sonja Stills has been
promoted to the position of
Assistant Commissioner for
Administration & Compliance,”
said Dennis Thomas, MEAC
Commissioner. “Ms. Stills has
done a fine job since joining
the MEAC and I look forward to
her continued success in helping
to move the conference forward.”
As the Assistant Commissioner
for Administration & Compliance,
Stills will work closely with
Commissioner Thomas to ensure
the member institutions are
being serviced efficiently and
appropriately. She enters her
seventh year with the MEAC,
having joined the conference in
2002 and previously served as
the Executive Assistant to the
Commissioner and Director of
Compliance.
Stills currently serves as the
liaison to the MEAC Senior Woman
Administrators, Executive
Committee, Membership Committee
and the Constitution & Bylaws
Committee. She also coordinates
the various conference ancillary
events and is the coordinator
for the MEAC Cheerleading
Championship. She also serves
on the Policy Committee for the
Coastal Collegiate Swimming
Association and the Legislative
Council under the new NCAA
Governance Structure.
Raised in Newport News, Va.,
Stills is a proud military brat
and begin her career in
athletics as the Coordinator of
Academic Support and Senior
Woman Administrator at Hampton
University in 1998. She held
both positions until joining the
MEAC. Before athletics, she
served as the Assistant to the
Dean of Women at Hampton
(1996-98).
Stills received her bachelor’s
degree in Human Services
Counseling from Old Dominion
University in 1993 and her
master’s degree in
Counseling-College Student Work
Personnel from Hampton in 1996.
She is a 2002 graduate of the
Sports management Institute and
a 2008 graduate of the NACWAA/HERS
Institute for Administrative
Advancement.
Stills is the daughter of
retired Army Sgt. Maj. Rufus and
Shirley Stills with one sister,
Natasha. She currently resides
in Norfolk, Va.
