PRINCESS ANNE, Md.--Hawks for Football, Inc.(HFF) of the University of Maryland
Eastern Shore, a Historically Black College and University, sponsored a luncheon with
hopes of stimulating student and alumni interest in efforts to restore the football, missing
since 1979, to their Alma Mater.  Former football players from as early as 1950 attended
the event. What really surprised students is their discovery that Super Bowl III winners
Emerson Boozer and Earl Christy of the New York Jets, Mack Alston, of the Houston
Oilers and Washington Redskins, and Jim Wallace of the Pittsburgh Steelers, all Hawks,
were also in the house.  Both Alumni and students crowded around the former Maryland
State College legends. In Super Bowl III there were five Hawks in the game: Emerson
Boozer, Earl Christy, Charlie Stukes, Jim Duncan and Johnny Sample.

Hawks Art Shell, former Coach and player for the Oakland Raiders, William "Billy T."
Thompson of the Denver Broncos, could not be on hand, but provided personally signed
cards or pictures for the event as did Mack Alston. The newly formed UMES Student
HFF ran to get footballs to get autographs - big smiles on their faces.

Dr. Bryant Mitchell, long time supporter and Vice Chair of HFF, Inc., spoke of College
Football Hall of Famer Vernon Skip McCain , the HFF Quasi Endowments, and how
consistent giving of even small amounts can make a difference. Dianna Rogers-Ford,
President of the UMES National Alumni Association brought teary eyes speaking of
going to school with several of the pros. " How can you not be proud? How can you not
want to give them a Home , restore the Legends to their Legacy?  How can we not want
the students to know, understand and share this source of Hawk Pride and Spirit? "

Joanne Johnson-Shaw, HFF, Inc. Chairperson says she couldn't tell who was more
excited, the students or alumni.  She calls upon all Hawks to give either their time, talents
or treasure. We are determined to restore football to UMES in our lifetime - failure is not
an option.  For Info contact hawksforfootball@msn.com
