WSSU Men’s Tennis Falls To Hampton University 6-1 Chris Zona 03/08/10 Ian Hunter earns the Rams their lone point of the match SUMTER, S.C. – Ian Hunter’s 1-6, 6-3, 13-11 victory over Kenneth Green would prove to be the WSSU men’s tennis team’s lone point of the afternoon as they dropped a 6-1 decision to the Pirates of Hampton to fall to 1-13 on the season. Hunter, playing at second singles, dropped the first set 1-6 before rallying for a 6-3 win in the second set and a 13-11 victory in the third set to capture the Rams’ only point in the 6-1 loss. Hunter and doubles teammate Brian Coxton very nearly earned a win at first doubles as they fell in defeat 8-5 to Hampton’s Nello Mattos and Gellet Varga as the Pirates swept all eight of the remaining matches. The loss drops WSSU to 1-13 on the season while Hampton moves to 2-0 on the season with the victory.
