(Raleigh, NC) – Shaw first baseman Monica Grimmage was today named CIAA Softball Player of the Week for her performance at the CIAA Softball Roundup.

Grimmage, a junior from Georgetown, SC, went four for 11 with three RBI in Shaw’s four games at the Roundup. Against Saint Paul’s she was two for four, scoring four runs and batting in another. She also reached base on a walk and by being hit by a pitch.

Shaw’s only games last week were the four at the CIAA Softball Roundup. The Lady Bears went 3-1, garnering their first three wins of the season against Virginia Union, Virginia State, and Saint Paul’s. Their only loss was to Elizabeth City State.

On Saturday, the Lady Bears travel to Elizabeth City State – the first of three road doubleheaders. They return home Tuesday, March 30 to face cross-town rival Saint Augustine’s in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. For those games, Shaw will wear pink jerseys as part of an effort to raise awareness of breast cancer.
