Lady Rams to Host Rival North Carolina Central Lady Eagles Trevin Q. Goodwin 03/22/10 WSSU returning to Twin City Park to face former rivals WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-9) will return to action Tuesday afternoon when the team hosts the rival North Carolina Central Lady Eagles (4-18). With seven straight losses, including four straight home losses, the Lady Rams will look for the support of a friendly home crowd to push them past their recent struggles when they play their second home doubleheader in less than a week. One of the keys to the Lady Rams’ resurgence will be an improved offensive effort as the team has scored two combined runs in their last five games. For the season, the team has totaled 24 total runs in 11 games with a .223 team batting average. Senior infielder Whitney Hall currently leads the way for the Lady Rams with a .314 batting average and a team-high seven RBI. She also leads the team with a pair of home runs. The pitching tandem of freshman Brittany Lane (1-4) and Tiffany Burgess (1-4) will look to pitch the Lady Rams past their most recent struggles. The Lady Rams will face a North Carolina Central team that has had some struggles of their own with nine straight losses. The Lady Eagles have been busy in the early going, however, playing in twice as many games (22) as the Lady Rams (11) this season. The Lady Eagles are currently 4-18 with senior outfielder Desanbra Franklin leading the way with a .365 batting average and 11 RBI. She is one of four NCCU players with a least a .300 batting average. The Lady Rams and Lady Eagles are scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at Randy Jones Field at Twin City Park at 2801 New Walkertown Road. |
