UMES continues to look for first MEAC win of season

HAMPTON, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team gave up three runs in
the first inning and was not able to come from behind as they lost, 7-1, to Hampton Saturday
afternoon at Lady Pirates Field.

The third inning was the only fruitful one for the Lady Hawks as sophomore Britney McLeod
(Palmyra, N.J.) reached base on a fielding error by first baseman Jada Jeffries. McLeod advanced to
second on a single by junior Chelsea Logan (Trenton, N.J.) and then stole third base.

McLeod was then out at third on a fielder's choice as junior Ebony Hahn (Groveport, Ohio) reached
first. A RBI single by freshman Jasmine James (Willingboro, N.J.) scored Logan before a
groundout ended the half-inning to show the scoreboard at 5-1.

The Lady Pirates quickly responded posting another run in the bottom of the third to go ahead, 6-1.

The Lady Hawks would not back away as they received singles by sophomores Cy'Anna Scott
(Paterson, N.J.) in the sixth and Kristi Miranda (Houston, Texas) in the seventh before falling 7-1.

Hahn gave up all seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out one. With
the loss, the junior moves to 0-4 on the season while UMES falls to 1-15 and 0-3 in Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference play.

The trio of Jeffries, Rebecca Magett and Sharde Estep led the Lady Pirates to victory. Jeffries went
2-for-2 on the day with a double, run, RBI and walk while Magett continued her hot weekend, going
1-for-2 with two runs, a RBI and double. Estep finished the day 2-for-3 with a home run and three
RBIs.

Logan led the Lady Hawks as she went 2-for-3 on the day with one run scored.

UMES travels to Fairfax, Va. on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader (3 p.m. and 5 p.m.)
against George Mason.
