Hawks secure 13 Top Five finishes

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) participated in three
events at the University of Penn Invitational Saturday and left the event with three gold medals for the
University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Fothergill captured first place in two individual events, the 200 meters with a time of 21.38 and the
400 meters with a time of 47.29, and also as a member of the 4x400 relay team.

The 4x400 relay team, consisting of Fothergill, junior Paul Jones-Burden (Rahway, N.J.), junior
Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.) and sophomore Akheem Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.) finished
in a time of 3:10.28.

Freshman Marcus Brown (Gaithersburg, Md.) grabbed two silver medals, one in the shot put, with a
distance of 16.29 meters, and one in the discus, with a trhow of 45.38 meters.

Sophomore Johan Welter (Paris, France) took bronze in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.37.

Senior James Moore (Manassas, Va.) and freshman David Sandiford (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed third
and fourth in the high jump with heights up 1.93 meters and 1.88 meters, respectively. Senior
Charles Elmer (Columbia, Md.) took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.79 meters.

Junior Eunice Jones (Lanham, Md.) secured the lone first place finish for the Lady Hawks with her
time of 2:09.72 in the 800 meters. Sophomore Monique Hawkins (Randallstown, Md.) finished
second in the 400 meters with a time of 56.73.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team placed second with a time of 3:46.91. In addition to Jones and
Hawkins, members include sophomore Cynthia Anais (Paris, France) and freshman Emilie Ducados
(Paris, France).

Anais also took home a medal in the 1500 meters, finishing in a time of 4:35.51, which was good for
third place.

Sophomore Vanessa Henry (Capital Heights, Md.) rounded out the top five finishes for UMES with
her fifth place distance of 34.35 meters in the discus throw.

The Hawks continue their season next Saturday at the Hampton Invitational in Hampton, Va. and the
Sun Angel Classic in Phoenix, Ariz.
