SU SOFTBALL TO HOST MCNEESE STATE Brandon Willis 04/04/10 Baton Rouge, LA – The Southern University softball team will host the Cowgirls of McNeese State University on Tuesday, April 6, in doubleheader action beginning at 1 pm. SU and McNeese split in their last two meetings. Southern (8-22, 6-5 SWAC) is led at the plate by sophomore Audrey Phillips. The preseason SWAC player of the year has a .344 batting average with a team high 20 runs, 32 hits, and six triples. Senior Lanaya Jenkins leads the Blue and Gold pitching staff with seven of the eight total team wins. The Seattle native has a team high 17 appearances, 12 games started, 92.1 innings pitched and 45 strikeouts. The Cowgirls are coming off a series sweep of Sam Houston State to improve their record to 21-20. MSU defeated the Lady Jaguars 8-0 in their first meeting but lost 5-4 in the second contest of the doubleheader. Both teams will be looking for a sweep in Tuesday’s match-up. The doubleheaders will be played at Lady Jaguar field and is free and open to the public.
