Sophomore places ninth to qualify for NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Cynthia Anais (Martinique, France) had a successful
Friday evening as she broke the school record in the women's 800-meter run at the NCAA
Division I Outdoor Track and Field Eastern Regional at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus
of North Carolina A&T State University.

Anais finished ninth overall and third in her heat with a 2:05.33, which broke her previous
record of 2:05.84, which was set nearly two weeks ago at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Championships.

Within the track semi-final events, the top three finishers per heat (nine total) and then the
next three fastest qualify for the next round.

With her time, Anais advances to the NCAA Championships, which will be held June 9-12 at
the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Senior Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) just missed the Championships cutoff
with his time of 46.04 in the men's 400-meter dash, which was good for 13th overall.

In addition to Anais and Fothergill, sophomore Damian Miles (Teaneck, N.J.) also competed
for the Hawks on Friday. He ran a 21.82 in the men's 200-meter dash first round and did not
qualify for Saturday's semi-finals.

The lone event for UMES on Saturday is the men's 4x100 relay quarterfinal, which will take
place at 6 p.m. Fothergill and Miles join junior Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.) and
sophomore Akheem Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.) in the event with their qualifying and school-
record time of 40.01, which was set at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships.

Admission for the regional includes multi-day passes and ranges from $10 to $25. Please call
the NC A&T ticket office at (336) 334-7749 for more information. NC A&T does not permit
