Freshman forward finished with eight points and three rebounds at Wake Forest

NORFOLK, Va. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has announced that Porsha Barr (Waldorf, Md.) is the conference's Rookie of the Week for the period ending January 1st. This is Barr's first ever weekly award and UMES's first weekly honor this season.

Against Wake Forest, Barr shot 60% (3-of-5) from the field and hit two free throws, finishing with eight points, three rebounds and a steal. She was second on the team in scoring that game, including the top player off the bench.

Between the 7:00 and 3:52 marks in the second half against Wake Forest, the freshman forward scored all six of UMES's points, hitting both layup shots and both free throw attempts.

In addition, Chelsea Sanders (Rochester, N.Y.) was honored as an other top performer for scoring 11 points and grabbing four rebounds in the same game.

UMES will resume conference play on January 7th as the Lady Hawks take on Norfolk State on the road.
