ALL-TIME RECORDS FALL IN UMES COACH O INVITATIONAL EDWARD T. JONES II Edward T. Jones II 01/09/12 Vanessa Henry and Geranda Williams Set New School Records Princess Anne, Md.-The University of Maryland Eastern Shore got to work early showing its prowess by breaking two school records in its recent meet. Hosting the Coach O Collegiate Invitational Saturday, Vanessa Henry and Geranda Williams set new school records in the 20-pound weight throw and pentathlon, respectively. Henry held the previous record of 17.33 meters (56'10.25") and recently tossed a distance of 17.86m (58'7.25") at the Coach O Invitational. Having thrown just under two feet further than her previous record, Henry feels she could have done better. "It feels great to have set the new record, but now I want to break that one," says Henry "My personal goal is to be ranked in the top three by national championships." Geranda Williams finished with a final of 3205 in the pentathlon, breaking a record that stood for almost five years. Sherita Harriott set the record in February 2006 with 3150 in the five events-shot put, high jump, 60-meter hurdles, long jump and 800m run. Williams placed first in the 60 in a time of 9.11-seconds and recorded a distance of 5.44m (17'10.25") in the long jump. She finished second in the high jump (5'1.75"), and shot put (32'10.25"). Courtney Gray placed first in the shot with a distance of 11.46m (37'7.25"). Other top performers for the women were Lenora Guion-Firmin in the 200 with a first place time of 25.02, while Emilie Ducados placed first in the 800 in 2:15.83.
